Chapter 66 Nian Jinsui’s Moment of Glory

As for teamwork and synergy, Nian Jinsui could only hope for the best.

Soon, all the instruments were set, and the ensemble members took their places on stage. The audience fell silent, though whispers lingered in the background.

"Am I seeing things? Is that Young Master Nian with a violin? Does he even know how to play?"

"I saw in the group chat that Xiao Liu had stomach issues, so they just grabbed someone to fill in and make it look good."

"This is going to be so awkward. What if I can't hold back my laughter?"

"Shut up," a cold voice cut through the chatter.

The two students turned to see Qin Chengyu glaring at them.

"Why are you so fierce, Qin Chengyu? I wasn’t even talking about you. Why are you so defensive of Young Master Nian?" one of them retorted, unimpressed by the once-exiled heir of the Qin family.

"Don’t provoke him. He might run off to tattle to Young Master Nian," the other whispered, tugging at his friend’s sleeve.

"Whatever," the first muttered, sitting back down and murmuring, "Lapdog."

Qin Chengyu ignored the insult, his gaze locked on the figure standing center stage.

Meanwhile, hiding in the corner, Ye Kang observed the scene. He was initially surprised to see Nian Jinsui take the stage but quickly dismissed it. Knowing Nian Jinsui for years, Ye Kang had never heard of him playing the violin.

"He’s just trying to show off," Ye Kang thought, smirking. "He’ll probably embarrass himself and end up being laughed off stage."

The performance began with a violin solo of Castle in the Sky, followed by the rest of the ensemble joining in.

As the spotlight illuminated Nian Jinsui, all eyes turned to him. Some were mocking, some curious, and others expectant.

But Nian Jinsui remained composed, lifting the bow with practiced ease. His demeanor and posture were those of a seasoned violinist.

Even so, Chu Hejun remained cautious, fingers poised over the piano keys, ready to cover any mistakes Nian Jinsui might make.

But the first note left him stunned.

A gentle, flowing melody poured forth from the violin strings, the level of skill indistinguishable from that of a professional.

The audience collectively held their breath before breaking into murmurs of awe.

"Wow, Young Master Nian is full of surprises."

"And to think I thought he’d be terrible. The joke’s on me!"

Qin Chengyu’s expression softened, his sharp features melting into a quiet smile. His eyes stayed fixed on Nian Jinsui, as if etching the moment into his memory.

Backstage, Ning Liang’an excitedly grabbed Chu Heting’s arm. "Young Master Chu, look! I told you I trusted Young Master Nian!"

"Yes," Chu Heting murmured, though his focus wasn’t on the stage. His gaze lingered on Ning Liang’an’s radiant smile.

Ye Kang, on the other hand, stood frozen, shaking his head in disbelief. "Impossible! Nian Jinsui playing the violin? That’s impossible!"

As Nian Jinsui’s solo ended, the other instruments seamlessly joined in, creating a harmonious medley of classics.

When the final note faded, thunderous applause filled the hall.

Chu Hejun turned to Nian Jinsui, who smirked and raised an eyebrow, clearly pleased with himself.

Chu Hejun’s breath hitched, his heart racing.

Was this… attraction?

The fleeting smile and eye contact between Chu Hejun and Nian Jinsui did not escape Qin Chengyu’s notice. His expression darkened, his gaze toward Chu Hejun growing frosty.

After returning backstage, Ning Liang’an nearly lunged at Nian Jinsui, showering him with praise. "Young Master Nian, you were amazing! We couldn’t have done it without you!"

Even Chu Hejun couldn’t hide his delight. "When did you learn to play the violin, Nian Jinsui? I had no idea!"

Nian Jinsui lifted his chin proudly. "There’s a lot you don’t know about me. That’s what you get for underestimating me!"

Chu Hejun, playing along, slapped himself lightly. "You’re right. I’ve been thoroughly humbled."

Nian Jinsui couldn’t help but laugh at Chu Hejun’s theatrics.

Just then, Qin Chengyu approached, his expression unreadable. "Jinsui, are we heading back now?"

Before Nian Jinsui could reply, Chu Hejun interjected, "Why don’t you join us for late-night snacks? We’re celebrating!"

"Yes, Young Master Nian, please come!" Ning Liang’an chimed in enthusiastically.

Nian Jinsui hesitated. If Chu Heting joined them and triggered a mission, it could complicate things. It was safer to leave while the system remained silent.

"I’m feeling a bit tired today. I just want to go home and sleep. You all have fun," Nian Jinsui said with a faint smile.

Seeing his decision, the others didn’t press further, reluctantly bidding him goodbye and reminding him to rest well.

Walking out of the auditorium, Nian Jinsui felt a wave of relief. He had successfully completed the mission.

"I didn’t expect the gala to go so off-script," he thought. "It’s nothing like the original plot anymore."

"Jinsui," Qin Chengyu began, "everyone seemed surprised that you could play the violin."

"Well, I’m a low-key person. What do you want me to do? Show off every skill I have?" Nian Jinsui replied with mock indifference, waving his hand like a reclusive master.

Qin Chengyu: … How should I respond to that?

It was clear Nian Jinsui had enjoyed the praise and applause. The smug expression on his face resembled a cat that had just stolen some treats, his eyes crinkled in satisfaction.

"Jinsui, your performance tonight was captivating. I couldn’t look away," Qin Chengyu said, his gaze softening with sincerity.

"Haha," Nian Jinsui laughed, missing the hidden meaning. "Of course, I was fantastic!"

Qin Chengyu’s smile deepened as they walked toward the academy gates together.

As they strolled, Nian Jinsui quietly asked the system,

"The original Nian Jinsui couldn’t play the violin. Won’t my performance raise suspicions?"

[Host, rest assured. The system will protect your true identity. Any doubts about your identity will be automatically corrected.]

"Why didn’t you tell me that earlier? I’ve been holding back on playing for so long!"

[The host didn’t ask.]

Nian Jinsui gritted his teeth.

"Xilu, you’re always so robotic. But when it comes to mocking me, you’re suddenly so human-like!"
